Fire burns down Female hostel in Jos

The Female hostel of plateau state Polytechnic Jos campus was completely burnt by fire on Monday. The fire which began by about 8:30am burnt burnt until at about 11:50am. All efforts to stop the fire by students was fruitless especially throwing the students and lecturers into serious confusion as everyone fled from the inferno. According to NAN report, No life was lost as almost all the students had left for lectures. Yusuf Ade a security man in the school told NAN "No one was around to bring out anything" NAN also reports that the fire service operatives came by 11:20pm when the fire had already burnt down everything. The rector of the school Dauda Geymeng said that the incident was very surprising and the fire had resulted from a gas explosion at about 8:30am. "We shall move the students to another place. The reduction of admissions bench mark is to stop Nigerians from going for foreign education - JAMB

By Igboamalu Chimezie Nelson Abuja :The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has explained that the decision by stakeholders to reduce the the cut of points for the 2017 calendar year was geared towards reducing the search for Education abroad by Nigerians. JAMB in a statement by its Head of Media Dr Fabian Benjamin said that education in the country in seriously retrogressive and fear of the public has led some to keep quiet in the matter. It also said that the bench mark strictly condemned by the public is never strictly followed by tertiary institutions in the country and some have gone below the cut off mark, while many has offered admissions without candidates even sitting for jamb. The Board which argued that the decision and controversies arising from the stakeholders action can be blamed on the rising trend for foreign education.
