In Kenya: Rongo University students threatens to boycott lectures

By Igboamalu Chimezie Nelson The students of Rongo university has reacted sadly to the relocation notice given to them by the school management through the dean of student  affairs barely a week after resumption. The students has been directed by the dean citing changes in lecture venues through the school website to relocate to the main campus in a near by town Kitere about 8 to 10 kilometer from Ringo town. According to Kenya's Reel magazine the students lamented about the distance and expenses involved in the relocation were seen boycotting lectures to drive their point. The students argue that the relocation exercise will cost them a fortune and each one would have to spend money to move their belonging to kitere which would leave them broke for the rest of the semester, and the facilities at Rongo where in good condition for learning. Nigeria: UNIPORT confirms suspected ritualist who raped and killed his Niece as their student

By Igboamalu Chimezie Nelson Portharcaourt: The University of Portharcourt popularly known as UNIPORT on Wednesday 30th of August identified a suspect who dismembered his 8year old niece as 200level student of the institution. The spokes man for UNIPORT Dr Williams wodi confirmed this by a statement issued in Portharcourt on Wednesday. The suspect was said to have abducted, raped, killed and dismembered his 8 year old niece known as Chikamso Nmuzwumba on the 19th of August for ritual purposes. The suspect was caught by the the vigilante group while going to dispose off the remains of Chikamso's body and was handed over to the police in the state but escaped barely 24hours after he was handed over. Nigeria: University of Lagos announces post UTME date for 2017/2018 academic year

By Igboamalu Chimezie Nelson Lagos :The University of Lagos on Tuesday 29th of August announced that its aptitude test would for prospective students intending to be admitted for the 2017/2018 session would hold on the 18th to 22nd of September 2017. The deputy registrar of information, Mr Toyin Adebule said that the online registration for post Unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME) would commence on August 31 through September 15. According to him, only students who made University of Lagos their first choice and scored 200 in their UTME are eligible to apply, students who are below 16 years by October 2017 should not apply. The reduction of admissions bench mark is to stop Nigerians from going for foreign education - JAMB

By Igboamalu Chimezie Nelson Abuja :The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has explained that the decision by stakeholders to reduce the the cut of points for the 2017 calendar year was geared towards reducing the search for Education abroad by Nigerians. JAMB in a statement by its Head of Media Dr Fabian Benjamin said that education in the country in seriously retrogressive and fear of the public has led some to keep quiet in the matter. It also said that the bench mark strictly condemned by the public is never strictly followed by tertiary institutions in the country and some have gone below the cut off mark, while many has offered admissions without candidates even sitting for jamb. Deputy Governor of Edo state Threatens To Lead a Protest Against Bus Drivers In University of Benin

Uniben Gate   By I.C Nelson The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr Peter Shaibu has warned all the bus Drivers attached to the University of Benin(Uniben) that he will lead a protest against them if they increase the fares of their services to the student. The warning came as a result of the reaction that followed the joint payment of the State and Local Government levies by the drivers who are threatening to increase the fares of their buses. The deputy Governor issued the warning during the meeting with the Student Union Government (SUG) of the school. He said that since January they have not been paying any levies and did not reduce the fares for the students, he also noted that other drivers has responded positively to the fair and theirs would not be different.

JAMB slash cut off mark for Universities to 120

Students books The Joint Admissions and matriculation board of Nigeria with Vice chancellors, and Rectors of Universities and Polytechnics in the country, unanimously agreed in a meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja for a general cut off mark of 120 for Universities and 100 for Polytechnics in the country for the 2017/2018 admissions. The Registrar of JAMB professor Isaq Oloyede cautioned that Universities should not go below the cut off mark of 120. "All we have done is to determine the lowest cut off for admissions into higher institutions, what ever score you adopt is not below the score adopted in this meeting for admission into your various institutions is the decision of the school" He said. He also called for schools to be flexible in their adoption of cut off marks for admissions. He stated that the senate and school board should be given opportunity to choose their cut off mark.
