Opinion: Who are the real Nigeria's Looters: An eye opener to Nigerian youths

By Azeez Oladimeji

It is always a global tradition and believe; good governance is chiefly determined by the features of legislatures and the kind of legislation they made any where in the world be it developed or developing countries.

An average legislature should always strive to be an embodiment of fairness, and just institution, where any law made would be devoid of sentimentality.

It is on this notion I derived my sheer conviction and strongly made to believed that, legislature could be likely or synonymously called the pace setter of any prosperous nation.

This simply denotes that, for a nation to be prosperous in all fronts her fate is vibrantly decided by the hands that constitute her legislative body.

In light of these, I am left with no option than to make a quick and brief assessment on the kind of legislature Nigerian has been having in recent years, precisely from the commencement of the fourth republic.

This assessment is all about nothing other than to take a cursory look on the kind of legislation they have presided upon over this period as the time will not permit me to take a full, deep and detailed assessment as to their performance within this period.

Subsequently, i arrived at a ground that many of the bad governance we all as Nigerias are experiencing today, the bulk of its percentage came from the unjust and self-centered elements we all call our lawmakers but they are law destroyers in a wider and real sense.

These professed law makers stop at noting to achieve there own interest during the process of legislation even at the detriment of the interest of the people they all claimed and paraded to have been representing.

The most recent show of shame by them was the passing of this "NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN BILL". In spite of the novelty and brilliance in it look, yet I still smell a rat in the whole process.

This is due to the fact that, the whole scenario looks like acting on already drafted script. This is because how on earth the same legislative body that used more than six months to pass the annual budget proposal which its early passage would have in one way or the other better the lots of the Nigeria. The same body that has not seen the needful for a day; the rectification of "Bsc and HND" decotomy as far back as early 2000s. The same body which took weeks, months to see the good reason why Nigerians deserve ministers at the beginning of this administration.

All these I put together and begin to wonder what could have prompted the hasty passage of the least issue any average Nigerian could ever think of at this time. Most especially when one knows the fact that,  the dividend of this law will only be enjoyed by the children and relatives of these elites. Or in what sleep would one ever dreamt; children of the poors became governor or president at twenties or early thirties, and if by any chance this happened; could it ever been without godfatherism? which has also over the year being one of the major factors that constituted to this distasteful state of Nigeria economy . All these are tall dreams in Nigeria.

On this note, I was able to have a precise prediction of what will be the end of the script presently acting by our so called "LEGISLATORS". Their intending motive is to continue their hegemony for a foreseeable future. This can only be accomplished by making a soft ground for their children, relatives and their generations coming. Such is the narrow thought of the unscrupulous group of people who can not act in haste in a matter with masses vested interest but act in a jiffy to pass a Bill which are of most paramount to them.

Thus, are these people we will allow to continue being our representatives? Are the future of the masses in a save hand with these people at the helm of power?. These are the questions and the likes we should always ask ourselves, because in every rational sense I don't see these people as legislators, rather I do see them as "LEGISLOOTERS"
