Why we boycott meeting with FG - ASUU

Abuja: The Federal Government expressed its regrets over the industrial action by the ASUU as it appointed the vice president Professor Yemi Osibanjo to preside over the matter and carry out negotiations on behalf the Government.

Speaking to press men, the minister of labour and productivity Dr Chris Ngige after the Federal executive meeting expressed the Federal Government regrets over the strike action that has stagnated educational activities in the higher institution in the country.

ASUU had started the industrial action 2weeks ago in order to get  pressure government to implement the 2009 and 2013 agreement with the Federal Government for upgraded facilities in the nations University.

Both parties where to meet on Tuesday in by the Union had boycott the meeting and kept the Minister of Labour and employment Dr Chris Ngige who headed the Negotiations on behalf of the government.

Explaining why they had boycotted the meeting the union said in a statement: "members were forced to embark on the strike on 13th of August 2017 after the government had failed implement the MOU with them after the warning strike on 2016.

We have since consulted our members Nationwide on issues being discussed to have a uniform concession. These issues includes, registration of Nigerian University pension management company (NUPEMCO). Gross underfunding for Federal Universities/non funding for State Universities and areas and implementation of earned academic allowance.



"Other demands are includes release of funds for revitalization of public Universities as agreed in the 2013 MOU, guidelines for retirement of professors as agreed in the 2009 ASUU/FG MOU, Treasury single account and withdrawal of support from university staff primary schools.

The Union also thanked students, parents and the media for their understanding and said it has done consultations with its members on the matters and awaited the Federal Government to call on them on the final concession.
