Houston: Students in Houston will be able to eat free meals for the 2017/2018 academic session. Confirming this report the Houston independent school district responsible for 215,000 students on Wednesday said it has gotten approval from the U.S department of Agriculture and Texas department of Agriculture to allow application for free breakfast and lunch because of the storm Harvey.

According to U.S News and World Report  most of the city has been affected and the most hit areas are filled with working parents who would use their limited funds towards recovery efforts.

The school district superintendent  Richard Carinza in a statement said "The waiver will give our families one less concern as they begin the process of restoring their lives, it will also provide a sense of normalcy by allowing students have 3 nutritious meals daily.

Last week according to the school district the department of Agriculture of Texas approved its application to offer free supper for the students.

The latest waiver will take effect immediately, therefore students will start getting free meals once they resume in school. Monday was slated to be the day school reopens but the district has cancelled classes untill at least Tuesday 5th of September and may take longer.

It will take longer for the students to recover, according to the city nutritionist Betti Wiggins said "we expect families to be displaced, and students to start new schools and use new roads to and from school"

The CampusGistars team wish the Houston community and its residents speedy recovery from the Harvey.
