Nassarawa State Government wants private schools to upgrade security

The Nassarawa state commissioner for education (Tijjani Ahmed) has encouraged private schools in the state to beef up security within their school to better secure the teachers and students.

The commissioner made this known in a meeting he had with properties of private school in lafia.

The commissioner said that government had taken steps to put in place security before any negative thing would happen.

He said the call became valid as a result of kidnapping and other security pitfalls that are reoccurring in other States.

He said that the state government is partnering with the police and some security agencies to double check security activities in schools, and government had already fenced several schools and has placed boarding schools as top priority.

He also said that aside from the perimeter fence that are built in schools, the management should always be careful of  movement by persons and vehicles in and out of the schools.

"The management should put mechanism in motion that will check all those going in and out of the school including staff"

He also cautioned against employing criminals as security and serious scrutinised be carried on people who parade themselves as security personnel.

He further explained that personals from the ministry of education would go round to check on the level of compliance by schools.

On behalf of the proprietors Charity Manzuch thanked the state government for their support and allowing them contribute to education in the state.

She also called for a downward review of levies on private school to enable them provide conducive environment for learning and to also pay their staff as at when due.
