Nigeria: Lagos State to beef up security for Schools in riverine areas

Lagos: Lagos state government has began a clamp down with a joint security tactic squad comprising of various security agencies and its officers to heighten security of model schools with the riverine areas and places vulnerable to security treat within the state.

Briefing news men after the monthly security meeting chaired by the state governor Akunwumi Ambode, the commissioner of police Mr Imohimi Edgal said that security measures are put in place to upgrade security within the state and would also involve the restrictions of the motorcyclists activities popular known as Okada to some places within the the state to ensure the safety of schools and communities within the region.





He said the ban on Okada would be enforced immediately the public is enlightened on the danger on plying them through the banned routes.

He said that there has been checks in all model colleges and schools, and all security leaks has been noted, and the governor had given orders that they should be taken care of immediately. Which is why the joint tactic force that also involves the military in the riverine colleges and schools are initiated.

"We have heighten security around the state, there are more security personnel across the streets, recall that the bridges and most places where cleared to avoid hoodlums from using their as hide outs"

The CP also said that the the council also discussed about partnership with informal community policing to curb community robbery, and efforts were made to also take over places where robbers hibernate such as uncompleted buildings.

He also made it clear that the all those involved the murder of the winner of 2007 Gulder Hector Tobathe ultimate search has been apprehended, which included the ultimate suspect who fired the shot and will soon be charged to court.

He also said that the restrictions of interstate buses around the Ikorudu road was discussed, and measures are taken to readdress matter.
