OAU Suspends Student Union Activities

ile-ife—Authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, yesterday, suspended Students’ Union Government, SUG, activities, saying the decision was informed by the need to forestall total breakdown of law and order and curtail acts of brigandage among the students populace.

Vanguard report shows that a statement by the Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the university, Mr Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that incessant fighting and unruly behaviour during their congresses and the recalcitrant attitudes of their leadership have made it inevitable for the University Management to suspend their activities.

Recall that the SUG had earlier this year involved in a blood bath over 3.6m naira which had landed one of the executive member of the union in hospital.

As if that was not enough, recently the SUG president was also suspended by the student parliament for allegedly bringing cult activities to school to beat up one of the students executive.
