The university’s Deputy Registrar, Waziri Garba made this known on Monday, November 27 during an interview with newsmen in Abuja.

Garba said the result of the students' final professional examinations released on November 24, showed that 18 medical students passed the examination and only five of the 18 graduated with distinction in Surgery. He added that only the 18 successful students would be inducted in December.

“The induction ceremony, which will hold at the main campus of the university, will feature a lecture by a renowned member of the medical profession, Prof. Adetokumbo Ademola.

“Ademola is a Professor of Public Health, Obstetrics and Gynaecology,’’ he said.

Explaining why it took UNIABUJA 12 years to graduate its pioneer medical students, Garba said could not graduate all the while due to non-accreditation of the university’s medicine and surgery courses by the National Universities Commission.

He, however, announced that the courses have, however, secured full accreditation.

UNIABUJA accreditation Crisis

Prior to the graduation of the 30 pioneer medical students in the institution, there had been a lot of back and forth over accreditation of surgery courses.

In 2012, the then Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa’i announced that medicine, agriculture, veterinary medicine and engineering courses in the university be suspended following a panel recommendations.
